Pompeii from Naples at a glance
A Pompeii day tour from Naples is an easy way to see the ruins without planning transport yourself. The tours below fall into three kinds: coach trips with transport, entry and guide, train tickets with an entrance ticket and an optional guide, and longer days that add Herculaneum or Vesuvius.
The shortest coach tours run about 3 to 3.5 hours, which makes them a real half-day option. Whichever you choose, check the meeting point in your booking confirmation, because it differs from tour to tour.

Our picks: Pompeii from Naples
The transport tours handle the ride and entry in one booking; the train option suits you if you like to travel by rail and add a guide only when you want one. The minibus option also lists selected hotels and the cruise terminal as pickup points.

Pompeii tours from Naples: coach or train
What each kind of trip includes.
Coach with a guide
The coach tours include return transport from Naples in an air-conditioned bus, a fast-track entrance ticket and a two-hour guided tour with a licensed archaeology expert. Headsets are provided for larger groups. Food and drinks are not included. Bookings made shortly before departure use a fixed central pick-up point, so read your confirmation.
Short guided trip with transport
A further tour of 3 to 3.5 hours includes an expert guide, return transport from Naples and the entrance to Pompeii. Meals and drinks are not included.
Train tickets and entry
One offer sells return train tickets and a skip-the-line admission ticket. A guided visit is part of it only if you select that option. This is a ticket package for a day on your own, not a guided day trip. Lunch and drinks are extra.
Longer days with Herculaneum or Vesuvius
A seven-hour tour adds Herculaneum with an archaeologist at both sites, return transport and both entrance tickets, with a light lunch only if you choose it. See Pompeii and Herculaneum in one day. An eight-hour tour combines Pompeii with Vesuvius, a lunch and the Vesuvius entrance ticket, and the guided trek depends on the trail you select. The Vesuvius page explains what that part involves.
Meeting points and pick-up
Check this before you book.
Meeting points in Naples differ by tour: some use selected central points, and a hotel pick-up is not part of every tour. The confirmed point is in your booking confirmation. If you arrive by ship, compare the tour length with your ship's departure time and leave a comfortable margin for the return to the port.
Pompeii excursions from Naples that combine the ruins with the Amalfi Coast are not part of this page. If the coast is your main goal, the Sorrento page shows how to plan it. A day on Capri is a separate trip, covered by the Naples to Capri guide.
Which ticket does your tour use?
The ticket decides which parts of the site you can enter. Prices valid from 12 January 2026.
| Ticket | Covers | Price 2026 |
|---|---|---|
| Pompei Express | The ancient city without the suburban villas | EUR 20 |
| Pompei+ | The city, the named suburban villas, Villa Regina and the Antiquarium of Boscoreale, plus the shuttle | EUR 25 |
| Express plus villa supplement | Added at the villa path entrance if you already hold a valid city ticket, paid by card only | EUR 8 |
Tickets are personalised, one entry per ticket, and the park sets a daily limit of 20,000 people. A reseller ticket or a tour does not guarantee unlimited capacity. Most coach tours name an entrance ticket to Pompeii without saying which one, so check the offer if the Villa of the Mysteries matters to you. The Villa of the Mysteries page shows which tours include it. For most day trips from Naples, a tour with the city ticket is enough. Add the villa only if you want the frescoes.
If you would rather go on your own, the getting there page compares the train, bus and car. Note that the station Pompei Scavi-Villa dei Misteri and the station of the modern town are not the same starting point, so match the station to your entrance.
Before and after the trip
Pompeii is one part of a Naples stay.
The ruins give you the city as it stood in the year 79. For the paintings, mosaics and other finds taken from Pompeii, the original pieces are in Naples, so a visit to the Naples Archaeological Museum pairs well with a day at the site. If you want a full day in the ruins, read the Pompeii ruins page for the main areas, and check opening hours: from 16 March to 14 October the site opens 09:00 to 19:00 with last entry at 17:30, and from 15 October to 15 March it opens 09:00 to 17:00 with last entry at 15:30.

Pompeii from Naples: frequently asked questions
How long does a Pompeii day trip from Naples take?
The shortest coach tours take 3 to 3.5 hours, and tours that add Herculaneum or Vesuvius take 7 to 8 hours. Lengths differ per tour, so check yours.
Is the entrance ticket included in the tour?
On the coach tours here, yes. The train package includes a skip-the-line admission ticket as well. Pompeii tickets are personalised, and the Express ticket does not cover the suburban villas.
Do all tours pick me up at my hotel?
No. Some use a fixed central meeting point, and the train package starts at the meeting point of the option you book. Check the pickup details before you pay.
Can I do Pompeii as a half-day trip?
Yes. The shortest coach tours take 3 to 3.5 hours including transport. You see the highlights with a guide rather than the whole site.
Is the Villa of the Mysteries part of a day trip from Naples?
Only with a Plus ticket or the villa supplement. A city-only ticket and a guided tour of the centre do not guarantee entry to the villa.
