The Villa of the Mysteries in Pompeii
The Villa of the Mysteries, Villa dei Misteri in Italian, is known for its frescoes. It is a visit of its own, outside the plain walk through the city centre, and many people who come to Pompeii for the town never see it because their ticket does not cover it.
That is the key point of this page. Whether you can go in depends on your ticket and on the suburban villa path, not on how long you spend in the main site. A city tour does not take you to the villa by itself, and neither does a digital audio guide.

Which ticket gets you into the Villa of the Mysteries
Pompei Express (EUR 20 in 2026) covers the ancient city without the suburban villas. Pompei Plus (EUR 25) adds the named suburban villas, Villa Regina and the Boscoreale antiquarium, and the shuttle.
| Pompei Express | Pompei Plus | |
|---|---|---|
| Price 2026 | EUR 20 | EUR 25 |
| Ancient city | Yes | Yes |
| Villa of the Mysteries | No | Yes |
| Villa Regina and shuttle | No | Yes |
If you already hold an Express ticket, the park sells an add-on at the entrance to the villa path for EUR 8, cashless. It cannot be bought alone without a valid matching city ticket. The add-on and a Plus ticket bought from the start are different purchase routes, so do not read the two totals as the same price. Full details are on Pompeii tickets and entry rules.
Some tickets with an audio guide offer an Express option and a Plus option. Choose Plus if the villa is what you want. Express-only products, including the 2-hour guided tours with Express entry, do not include the villa.

Small-group visits with an archaeologist and a Pompei Plus ticket, with live prices and availability. Only tours whose includes name the villa belong here.
Visiting the villa with a guide
One small-group tour of about 3 hours is led by an archaeologist and includes the Pompei Plus entrance, which covers the Archaeological Park plus the Villa of the Mysteries. The meeting point is on Via Villa dei Misteri in Pompei, not in Naples.
Transport and food are not included. Your own transport to Pompei is up to you, so see getting to Pompeii for the train stations. The station Pompei Scavi, Villa dei Misteri is not automatically the right start for every tour, so use the meeting point in your confirmation.

The frescoes of the Villa of the Mysteries
The villa and its frescoes are the reason most people want the extra ticket. The painted walls make it one of the images people associate with Pompeii. A guide can explain the main readings of the frieze on site.
Before you go, check the building list for the day. Access to individual rooms can change, and the list of open buildings takes precedence over any plan or tour description. For other painted houses and mosaics within the town, see the ruins of Pompeii.
Villa of the Mysteries and the other suburban villas
The villa belongs to the suburban sites that Plus covers, among them Villa Regina. Express does not include any of them. If you want the town and the villas in one visit, a Plus ticket or a Plus tour is the right starting point. For villas further afield, see Oplontis and Stabiae.
Sun, heat, rain and slippery paths can shape a visit. Wear sturdy shoes and carry water. More on this is in visiting tips.
Villa of the Mysteries: frequently asked questions
Is the Villa of the Mysteries included in a normal Pompeii ticket?
Not in Pompei Express. The Plus ticket (EUR 25 in 2026) covers the suburban villas, including the Villa of the Mysteries.
Can I add the villa if I already have an Express ticket?
Yes. The park sells an add-on for EUR 8, cashless, at the entrance to the villa path. It needs a valid matching city ticket.
Does a guided tour of Pompeii visit the villa?
Only if the tour includes the Plus ticket and names the villa. A city tour or an audio guide does not guarantee the visit. Express guided tours stay in the town.

Are all rooms of the villa open?
Room access can change. Check the building list on the day you visit.
